The battery power interface functions to connect the battery to the vehicle DC bus as well as implementing safety features required for a high voltage/high power system.

The high voltage electric drive system is isolated from the vehicle chassis. The system includes a ground fault interrupter that disconnects the battery if a current leakage to the vehicle chassis is detected.

The power interface includes:

  • contactors that automatically disconnect the battery in case of power system failure or other emergency;
  • a high voltage connector with safety interlock;
  • a pre-charge system;
  • a service disconnect plug;
  • a fuse, and
  • voltage sensing electronics.
